Lexington Battle Green

Battlefield

The triangular common where the first shots of the American Revolution were fired on April 19, 1775. Approximately 77 colonial militiamen faced 700 British regulars here at dawn.

What Happened Here

Eight militiamen died here on April 19, 1775. Their names are inscribed on the Revolutionary Monument. The Green itself is largely unchanged since the battle, though surrounding buildings have evolved.
