Herkimer Home State Historic Site
Historic House
The Georgian mansion where General Nicholas Herkimer lived and where he died of his wounds on August 16, 1777, ten days after the Battle of Oriskany. The house reflects the prosperity of the German-American farming community that settled the Mohawk Valley. Herkimer's home was the gathering point for the Tryon County militia before the relief march; it became the site of his death shortly after.
