Independence Day Celebration at Guilford Courthouse National Military Park

Guilford Courthouse National Military Park, Greensboro, NC

A Fourth of July patriotic observance held at the park featuring readings of the Declaration of Independence, musket and cannon firing demonstrations by living history volunteers in Continental Army uniforms, fife and drum performances, and ranger-led talks about the role North Carolina and the Southern Campaign played in achieving American independence. The Nathanael Greene Monument serves as a focal point for the ceremony.

The event will occur in the field behind the bathrooms at Stop 6 off the tour road.

<p><span data-olk-copy-source="MessageBody">Join us for a fun and playful reading of a natural or historical themed children's book followed by an immersive arts and crafts activity! This event is free and aimed at children 2-6 but all are welcome. </span></p> <p><span data-olk-copy-source="MessageBody">Journey through the natural world with a ranger-led reading of <em>The Hike</em> by Alison Farrell and create your own bugs with a pollinator activity. </span></p>

The event will occur at the Hoskins Farmstead off New Garden Road.

<p><span data-olk-copy-source="MessageBody">Join us for a fun and playful reading of a natural or historical themed children's book followed by an immersive arts and crafts activity! This event is free and aimed at children 2-6 but all are welcome. </span></p> <p><span data-olk-copy-source="MessageBody">Learn about a famous Founding Father with a ranger-led reading of <em>I am Benjamin Franklin</em> by Brad Meltzer. Learn how settlers constructed their homesteads in backcountry North Carolina and build your own farmstead using Lincoln Logs. </span></p>

Back to School Junior Ranger Day

Activities will occur outdoors near the Nathanael Greene Monument located near Old Battleground Road and the Atlantic and Yadkin Greenway. Carolina Colonial Dance performance will occur in the Visitor Center.

<p>Join us at Guilford Courthouse NMP for our third annual Back to School Junior Ranger Day. There will be hands-on children's activities at the Greene Monument Lawn. The Battle of Guilford Courthouse

<p>Join us for a ranger led discussion of the Battle of Guilford Courthouse. Learn how British and American soldiers experienced the battle and how it affected the course of the Revolutionary War. </p> <p>Programs last around 30 minutes and may include up to a quarter mile walk.</p> <p>Note: Programs are subject to change and/or cancelation due to inclement weather, heat, or other unforeseen circumstances. Weather-appropriate clothing and closed toe shoes are recommended. </p>

Registered citizen scientists should meet park staff at the Visitor Center (2332 New Garden Road Greensboro, NC 27410).

<p>Guilford Courthouse National Military Park seeks volunteers to help with a big project: a biodiversity study of our park’s waterways!</p> <p>Over the weekend of September 12 and 13, 2026 citizen scientists can assist the National Park Service and the Deep River Riverkeeper by helping us identify species that live in our creeks and springs. This project will help the park update our long-term species catalog for future park natural resources planning. Plus, you'll receive a special sticker for your hard work! Anyone 16+ years old and able to walk through wooded areas and creeks may participate.</p> <p>Whether you have a niche interest in macroinvertebrates, freshwater wildlife, or just love being outdoors, we encourage you to join us!</p>

Naturalization Ceremony

<p>Guilford Courthouse National Military Park invites you to bring your American flag along to help us welcome our newest fellow citizens. In partnership with the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services, the park will host a naturalization ceremony on Constitution Day, September 17 at 11:00 am on the Nathanael Greene Monument lawn. </p>

Lecture Series: The Southern Campaign and the Road to Yorktown

Guilford Courthouse National Military Park Visitor Center, Greensboro, NC

An annual lecture or speaker series hosted at or in partnership with Guilford Courthouse National Military Park, featuring historians and authors discussing the Southern Campaign of the American Revolution. Topics have included Nathanael Greene's strategy, the Race to the Dan, Cornwallis's march from Guilford Courthouse to Yorktown, and the experiences of Loyalists and Patriots in the Carolina backcountry. Often held in autumn to connect thematically to the October 1781 British surrender at Yorktown.

Battle of Guilford Courthouse Anniversary Reenactment and Commemoration

Guilford Courthouse National Military Park, Greensboro, NC

Annual living history reenactment and commemorative ceremony marking the March 15, 1781 Battle of Guilford Courthouse. The weekend event features a large-scale tactical battle reenactment with hundreds of costumed participants representing American and British forces, artillery demonstrations, period military encampments, colonial civilian life demonstrations, and a wreath-laying ceremony at the battlefield monuments. Rangers and historians offer guided battlefield walks along the American defensive lines and the New Garden Road approach route.

Guilford Courthouse Battlefield Guided Anniversary Tours

Guilford Courthouse National Military Park Visitor Center, Greensboro, NC

Special ranger-led walking tours of the Guilford Courthouse battlefield offered around the battle anniversary each March. Participants follow the course of the engagement from the first American line of North Carolina militia through the second Virginia line and up to the desperate fighting at the third Continental line near the courthouse site. Tours cover tactical decisions by Greene and Cornwallis, the terrain's role in the battle, and the aftermath that sent Cornwallis retreating toward Wilmington.

Colonial Heritage Festival at Tannenbaum Historic Park

Tannenbaum Historic Park, Greensboro, NC

An annual living history festival held at the Tannenbaum Historic Park, located adjacent to the Guilford Courthouse battlefield. The event showcases 18th-century colonial backcountry life with demonstrations of blacksmithing, weaving, open-hearth cooking, and woodworking. Costumed interpreters portray militia families and discuss the daily lives of the settlers who lived in the Guilford County area during the Revolutionary War era. Children's activities and colonial games are featured.
