The Halifax County Clerk's office, while postdating the Revolution, stands on the institutional ground of Halifax County's colonial government. The county records maintained here include documents from the Revolutionary period that trace the legal and political framework through which Halifax County organized resistance to British authority. The building is near the site of the original colonial courthouse.
