Bronze statue by Daniel Chester French depicting a farmer-soldier leaving his plow. Dedicated in 1875 for the centennial of the battle, it became an iconic symbol of the American minuteman.
What Happened Here
French was only 23 when he created this sculpture. Ralph Waldo Emerson's "Concord Hymn" is inscribed on the base: "By the rude bridge that arched the flood, / Their flag to April's breeze unfurled..."
