Acton Minuteman Monument
Monument
A bronze statue of Captain Isaac Davis and James Hayward on Monument Square in South Acton, dedicated in 1851. The monument commemorates the two Acton men who died on April 19, 1775 — Davis at the North Bridge in the morning, Hayward in the afternoon fighting at the Concord road. The Acton company's extraordinary willingness to step forward — 'no one company is better than ours,' Davis reportedly said — is represented in the statue's determined posture.
